If one of your goals as a small business owner is to drive traffic to a site, Facebook may be a valuable ally in that effort.  What’s more, you shouldn’t have to embark on some expensive advertising campaign (or even a cheap one) in order to reap the benefits.

According to new data from Vitrue, attracting a respectable number of visitors is as easy as posting a link on your brand’s wall.  While the statistics are a little hard to pin down, Abbey Klaassen reports, “With the assumption that one-twelfth of the total U.S. Facebook audience is on the site at a given time, Vitrue data show a click-through rate of 6.49%.”

Or if you prefer to be a bit more cautious, Klaassen continues, “With the assumption of one-eighth of the audience is on the site, Vitrue data show a click-through rate of 4.32%.”

Regardless, those clickthrough rates are pretty good.  Great, even, considering that posting on Facebook is free and there aren’t any other sorts of barriers.

Klaassen just issues a reasonable warning not to go too crazy with self-promotion on Facebook, or you might risk turning people off instead of drawing them in.
